November 26^th, 2001 (12:00am) - Japanese GameCube news site GameCube Inside has posted an excerpt from an interview with Nintendo star designer Shigeru Miyamoto, taken from the magazine Nintendo Dream, in which Miyamoto hints at Pikmin 2.

In the interview Miyamoto remarks that Nintendo is planning a sequel to the RTS game, Pikmin. The Nintendo designer explained that he uses post-it notes to keep track of new ideas and games, and that he has created one for Pikmin 2 already. Miyamoto also commented that creation of a sequel could be pulled off in merely half a year.

Although it came out a month after the Japanese GameCube launch in Japan, Pikmin has proven to be one of the more popular GCN titles in Nintendo’s home country. According to Famitsu Magazine, Luigi’s Mansion has sold 198,000 copies in the last month. Pikmin, which released on 10/26, sold 127,000 copies in just 10 days. Remember though that both numbers are low sales estimates, as they’re based on sales tracking that does not include many Nintendo-licensed retailers and convenience stores. Still, despite the name recognition associated with Wave Race and Luigi’s Mansion, Pikmin has proven that there is always room for new franchises.
