GameCube Declared Fastest Selling Console Ever ! ! !
November 29th, 2001 (12:00am) - NOTE:: THIS WAS WRITTEN WITHOUT NOTICE THAT OUR OTHER REMARKABLE STAFF MEMBER, LONNIE, HAD ALREADY WRITTEN ONE. First of all, sorry for the lack of updates recently, because, sadly, there hasnt been much news. Of course, as we move into the GameCubes life, there will be more and more news available. And with Pikmin coming out around Tuesday of next week, Ill have some impressions. Okay, yesterday, Nintendo announced that GameCube was the fastest selling home console ever! Having 740,000 consoles available, and 80% said to have been available to US Retail stores, many stores are now sold out. Stores have been recieving shipments as the weeks pass. "To have outpaced any other videogame console launch ever would be notable in its own right," Peter Main said, the executive vice president, sales and marketing, Nintendo of America. And this is truly remarkable. Of course, the rumors and nearly official statements from Sony claiming that they didnt expect so many PS2 consoles would be needed, could say something. If there were enough, PS2 could have easily sold as many, but they didnt. Nintendo was ready, and many gamers got their hands on one fast, with the occasional wacko who went to the store five hours late and didnt. Main went on, "But to accomplish this under the current economic conditions is truly remarkable. There is a seemingly endless appetite for high quality, stay-at-home entertainment at an affordable price -- which is a perfect definition of Nintendo GameCube... At a suggested retail price of $199.95, consumers can purchase Nintendo GameCube and two games for the same cost as rival, current generation game consoles alone. Its like getting two games for free." This is the type of thing people shrug at and go, "Well, weve got a DVD player too!" I dont like the argument about getting two games for "free" but I dont need a DVDplayer attached to my console. Also, Nintendo allegedly said that Luigis Mansion, with a lack of exact numbers, had even outsold Super Mario 64 at debut, which is truly remarkable, and Star Wars Rouge Leader coming in at a close second.
