PS2 Still Selling Strong

December 19th, 2001 (12:00am) - Despite the releases of the Xbox and GameCube, PS2 is still going strong in the market, and signs of sales considerably slowing down anytime before Christmas are not even in sight.

Sales figures have been released from the NPD Group stating that since Thanksgiving week, approximately 1.5 million PS2 units have been in North America, and PSOne and PS2 products generating approximately $700 million in revenue during that period. This makes the PS2 userbase in North America alone about 6.5 million, and over 20 million worldwide.

Jack Tretton, senior vice president, Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. had this to say:

"Clearly, data for the first month of the holiday sales season indicates that the entire PlayStation family of products will soundly outsell all competitors combined, despite the heralded introduction of new game consoles during this important month, we recognize the importance of delivering products that provide the greatest overall value for the consumer, and are happy to see that consumers are placing their support behind the PlayStation brand once again this holiday season."
