Tetsu Kayama Comments on Naomi 3

March 30th, 2002 (12:00am) - The Japanese Famitsu spent two weeks interviewing Sega’s Tetsu Kayama. In the latest issue they finished up. In the interview Sega announced that the Triforce or the Xbox chip set would not be their primary arcade board. This will likely hurt both boards since Sega is the top arcade manufacturer in the world, followed by Namco who uses Sony’s board. On the topic of Virtua Fighter 4, apparently its still Playstation 2 exclusive, Sorry Xbox and GCN fans. However, he did mention an online game much like Virtua Fighter 4. No console was named. Most likely a Playstation 2 or Xbox Title considering Nintendo can’t get an online strategy, oh but they have a modem ready! For the Gamecube He Hinted at a Virtua Fighter Kids game for the Cube. Huzzah! A kids game on a kids console I kid you not. Ok, enough with the sarcasm. Actually Virtua Fighter Kids was originally an excellent Saturn game and will be perfect for the cube. However, as a punch in the face to the once big N. Kayama stated this game as well as an easier Skies of Arcadia of games he felt would do well in Nintendo’s Market. To worsen the blow when asked about a real Virtua fighter game he commented that it would be "nonsense" instead the kids would have to start out with VF Kids and after completing that they would be old enough to play a real VF game. Kind of funny how Sega makes these small blows to Nintendo isn’t it? Even with all that said Nintendo won’t be receiving any of these titles as of yet. Sega is still tight lipped.

Tetsu-San also mentioned that Sega would be bringing it’s best selling Sakura Wars series to the states. The Dreamcast games will not be brought over, instead Sega is showing their support for the PS2 this time around. Also, in the arcade Kayama mentioned that they WOULD NOT be using either the Triforce nor the Xbox boards for their main arcade games. Instead they are developing Naomi 3
He did mention that the machine would be more powerful than anything available in the home market. Leave it to Sega to jump one step ahead of the competition. More news on this after Game Jam.
