Square Adds Online Fees

March 13th, 2002 (12:00am) - Square released new details today regarding the pricing structure for their online network PlayOnline, and more aptly, Final Fantasy XI. Specifically, players will be charged 100 yen (less than a dollar) for every character they create in the game. As previously reported, Final Fantasy XI will allow players to create their own persona in the game based on selectable character races and attributes. Due to overwhelming data storage and transfer costs however, Square has decide to charge players for every character they create. For the first month of availability however, all associated character creation fees will be waived. Square is reportedly working on subscription plan that will allow players to create and manage multiple characters for one low monthly fee. For reference, Final Fantasy XI is scheduled for release on May 16th for the PlayStation 2.
