Microsoft announces Xbox Live plans in Japan

June 11th, 2002 (12:00am) - The Japanese launch of Xbox Live will be very similar to the US one, bit with one noticable difference. They will pay about 6,800 yen ($55) for a starter kit, which will include the Xbox Voice Communicator, a one-year subscription to Xbox Live, and Phantasy Star Online.

And we in the US are stuck with ReVolt packed-in? Blech.

Pressing on, Microsoft confirmed 47 titles for the Xbox Live service from 39 third-parties for Xbox Live in Japan, which includes Sega GT 2002 Online (Wow Ent.), Shin Megami Tensei: Nine (Atlus), Spike Out X-treme (Amusement Vision), and Gaia Blade Online and Thousand Land (From Software).

An Xbox Live beta test will take place in Japan this summer, but no official launch date has been announced.
