Updated: Nintendo to brief on GameCube peripherals Tuesday (Now with rumors!)

November 18th, 2002 (12:00am) - Nintendo has announced that tomorrow they will make an announcement regarding peripherals for the GameCube console at 4:30 p.m. (Tuesday 2:30 a.m EST). Nothing is known about what the Japanese videogame giant will unveil tomorrow but many suspect for something to finally be mentioned about the SD Adapter and something along the lines of a keyboard. A Nintendo spokesman declined to give further details, other than a spokesman would hold a briefing (It’s not like we have to wait long anyway).

In other related news, in order to boost GameCube sales in Japan ahead of the Christmas shopping season, Nintendo is set to release a silver colored GameCube console on the 1st of December, followed by Silver and Emerald WaveBird controllers on the 5th.

Update: Rumors

Nintendo is going to reveal a peripheral for the GameCube that will allow online gamers to download content from the internet to their console. The type of content that this will be is NES, and Super NES ROMS! Nintendo will have every title for those consoles available for download at their official website or possibly a sister website. These titles will be available to be played on the GameCube; a NES emulator is already being utilized for the GameCube with titles like Animal Crossing and Metroid Prime. All games under the rights of Nintendo will be available.

The peripheral will utilize Panasonic’s SD memory cards which range in various memory sizes and prices.

My Thoughts:

I expect this announcement to follow the same trend as announcements made last week regarding The Legend of Zelda and Capcom. Expect something big, according to industry insiders this is NOT the Megaton announcement we’ve been waiting for… Personally, I believe the Megaton announcement is just a string of announcements and that seems to be the case. Konami is also expected to make a Capcom-like GameCube announcement soon as well.

Thoughts on the rumor:

If this IS what is really planned for tomorrow then I take back what I wrote before. This IS the Megaton announcement.
