War Craft to come to the big screen

November 22nd, 2002 (12:00am) - Blizzard Entertainment*, a studio
of
Vivendi Universal Games, today announced plans to premiere a new
cinematic
trailer for Warcraft® III: Reign of Chaos(tm) in theaters beginning
November
22, 2002, with the opening of James Bond: Die Another Day. The new
trailer
will appear on more than 20,000 screens across the country before such
movies as Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Star Trek: Nemesis, and
Solaris, along with the new Bond film.
Additionally, patrons of AMC Theatres will be able to take home a free
Warcraft III Game Sampler CD-ROM when they purchase a large Coke and a
Butterfinger candy bar at the concession stand. This exclusive disc
includes
a playable demo of the game, featuring three new Warcraft III
single-player
missions, and three new multiplayer maps to be used with the full
version of
the game.
"We wanted to drive broader awareness of Warcraft III amongst consumers
of
fantasy entertainment," stated Neal Hubbard, vice president of
marketing for
Blizzard Entertainment. "With movies like Two Towers hitting this
holiday,
the big screen is an ideal environment for us to transport people into
the
epic Warcraft universe and back in the span of thirty seconds."
The new missions in the demo chronicle the Orcs’ journey from Lordaeron
to
Kalimdor -- a previously untold chapter in the Warcraft III saga. Each
of
the multiplayer maps is ready to be played on Battle.net®, Blizzard’s
free
online game network, and can be used for custom games between teams of
up to
four players each.
In Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, players revisit the war-torn world of
Azeroth a generation after the end of the Second War between the Orcs
and
the Humans. The fragile peace that had since settled over the land is
now on
the verge of being shattered, for a dark power has returned after
thousands
of years to carry out its nefarious plans. Two new races - the Undead
Scourge and the Night Elves - emerge to join the fray, as players
follow a
single epic storyline through four successive campaigns. Players can
also
take the battle into their own hands in an enhanced multiplayer mode,
playable on local area networks and exclusively over the Internet on
Battle.net*, the largest online service of its kind in the world.
Since its debut in 1994, the #1-selling Warcraft series has won
industry
acclaim and has sold over 7 million copies worldwide . In 1995,
Blizzard
followed the well-received Warcraft: Orcs and Humans* with the
critically
acclaimed Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness*, which won multiple Game of
the
Year awards.
