Sega Announces New Titles

December 3rd, 2002 (12:00am) - In a special conference last night in Japan, Sega revealed quite a few titles upcoming for release. Many of them are a suprise, either unknown to have been in development or simply interesting titles.

The games range from updates to old Genesis games, old arcade games, old Saturn games and even some old Dreamcast games. Some are merely re-releases with new graphics, while others are new installments to the series altogether. Here’s what we’ve got so far:

Phantasy Star 1, 2 and 4
Alex Kidd
Last Bronx
Tant-R
Monaco GP
Golden Axe
Virtua Racing
Bonanza Brothers
Gain Ground
Space Harrier
Initial D: Special Stage
Fantasy Zone
Streets of Rage
Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution

Older Dreamcast titles reportedly being reworked for XBox:

IllBleed
Blue Stinger: Premium Cut
Rent A Hero
Dynamite Cop 2

It appears right now that most of the titles are headed towards PS2. However, Sega did recently say that due to losses across the board, their major releases would from now go to all 3 consoles, so you never know. The only title announced for GCN was an untitled baseball game.

My Thoughts
Well, it appears Sega might be taking a step in the right direction. Not only are most of their titles appearing to be headed to the big userbase at PS2, but by giving the huge userbase games they know are hits, they are maximizing their chances to make an impact while not really doing much work. I would easily buy an upgraded Phantasy Star game over something like Headhunter. New Golden Axe and Streets of Rage? Yes please. Hopefully, Sega will continue this type of attitude towards their games and they can climb back up the ladder.
