A slew of new game titles revealed by Atomic Planet Entertainment…

February 7th, 2003 (12:00am) - Atomic Planet Entertainment…Doesn’t ring a bell does it? You might not recognize the name of this group of talented developers and honestly I didn’t have a clue that they even existed till an hour ago, but the videogame world is a monstrous one, and games come flying from the left, from the right, and eventually find themselves into our living rooms, slowly rotting our brains with an onslaught of seizure inducing bright neon colors and lights. Whoa! Where did that come from? Well, as I was saying Atomic Planet Entertainment has released some info and screens about their latest game titles in development, all of which do not have a publisher or a tentative release date at the current time. Oh, did I mention today was my birthday? Happy Birthday to me!

Nam – Tour of Duty:

’Nam - Tour of Duty, is Atomic Planet’s exciting new take on the first-person action game: an innovative blend of adventure and tactical gameplay recreating all the tension and ferocity of combat in the Vietnam War.

Featuring rich play mechanics where every action has a consequence, from the sloshing of water in a soldier’s canteen to calling devastating air strikes, ’Nam: Tour of Duty brings the full scope of infantry combat in the Vietnam War to the player’s fingertips. For the first time ever in a first-person game, the player will take command of an entire platoon of soldiers in fierce battles ’from the Delta to the DMZ’. More than just a game, ’Nam: Tour of Duty is a painstakingly recreated account of the 1968 Tet Offensive brought to vibrant and violent life.

’Nam - Tour of Duty is currently in development for the PlayStation2 and all other major platforms.

Ace Squadron:

Ace Squadron is Atomic Planet’s arcade ’fly-’em-up’ set in World War II. Ace Squadron offers players a unique combination of accessible air combat action, an accurately presented historical setting, and a healthy of dose of the ’Battle of Britain’ spirit: for the first time ever, console gamers will be given the opportunity to shout ’Tally Ho!’ and dive their trusty Spitfire into a dogfight with swarms of Nazi aircraft. There are scores of missions to play, from the heady days of the Battle of Britain to dangerous raids on secret weapons factories in the last days of the war, and dozens of different and powerful warplanes to fly, such as the majestic Spitfire, the nimble Mosquito and the sturdy Lancaster.

Inspired by classic movies like The Dambusters, 633 Squadron and Memphis Belle, Atomic Planet’s Ace Squadron has already received great testimonials.

Ace Squadron is currently in development for the PlayStation2.

Pterosaur:

You are a Pterosaur, a flying dinosaur. The world as you know it is coming to an end. As the idyllic wilderness of your canyon home collapses into fiery chaos, you must lead your fellow dinosaurs to safety, or see them condemned to extinction.
The problems seem familiar: get from A to B, get what you want, and get out alive. But this time you’re not doing it for yourself. Your task is to save others.

To do that, you must learn to recognize the most vulnerable dinosaurs. You must learn how they behave: do they flock after a herd-leader, or will they scatter when threatened? Desperate predators await the weak: can they be lured away, or must they be defeated in open battle? The earth itself is in upheaval: can new paths to safety be found, or must friendly dinosaurs be recruited to help clear the way?

Familiar gameplay finds another new horizon when you take to the air. The vast landscape and its teeming population of dinosaurs are revealed in all their wonder, but danger looms far larger too. You will need every advantage of speed and maneuverability that flying will give you if you are to discover why your world is ending and rescue the dinosaurs from extinction.

The countdown to cataclysm has begun.

Tornado Valley:

Unlike earthquakes, their fury is precise. Unlike hurricanes, their reach is unlimited. Unlike fires, there is no way to combat them. Unlike floods, their terror is sudden.

In `Tornado Alley’, you take control of one of the most powerful forces that Mother Nature can throw at us, a Tornado, and guide it to do as much damage as possible, without running out of wind power.
To keep your twister alive you’ll need to follow the contours of the landscape, watching for thermals and building up the power of your cyclone with the right balance of warm and cold air. Cars and trailers can even be picked up to give ammunition to the vortex, to be churned around inside before being spat out with huge destructive force.

There are no other games like this, and hence there are no comparisons to be made.

`Tornado Alley’ is currently in development for all next-generation formats.
