Sega and Nintendo team up with McDonalds…
February 19th, 2003 (12:00am) - Both Nintendo and Sega have teamed up with McDonalds to help the fast food giant recover from its first ever quarterly loss. Nintendo will be bringing GameCube consoles to McDonalds’ fast food “restaurants” across the nation, with the campaign being tested at 14 locations in the Midwest this very moment. It won’t cost anything to play the console, but just like a demo kiosk, your play time will restricted to approximately 10 minutes. So far, Super Monkey Ball, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and Mario Party 4 have been confirmed as featured games. Sega is partnering with McDonalds for a Happy Meal deal, which will include products based on Sega’s popular Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball franchises. "Sonic The Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball are two of SEGAs most popular video game franchises," said Mike Fischer, vice president of marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "SEGAs affiliation with McDonalds affords us the opportunity to generate increased exposure for these properties among a growing universe of gamers." "We believe consumers will have a great reaction to the innovative Sonic The Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball premiums found only in McDonalds Happy Meals this summer," said Karlin Linhardt, senior director, U.S. marketing, McDonalds Corporation. "SEGAs properties are extremely popular and we look forward to bringing them to McDonalds consumers through this unique Happy Meal offering."
