Midway and Acclaim battle it out for the number one spot…

February 19th, 2003 (12:00am) - Midway has been claiming that they have the best selling baseball franchise around, but the sales, according to The NPD Group, show that Acclaim’s All Star Baseball franchise hasn’t been dethroned just yet, selling 563,000 units across all platforms, with sales nearly 30 percent higher than Midway’s. Acclaim noticed this, and they just want to make things clear.

"Claiming to having the #1 title on only one platform is such a bush-league, rookie move, as any true baseball fan knows, there are no shortcuts to calling yourself a champion," said David Knies, Director of Acclaim Sports. "There are nine innings in baseball and three next-generation systems, and unless you win the whole thing, you haven’t really won anything. And just like in baseball, the stats don’t lie, which is why consumers have made All-Star Baseball the #1 baseball franchise in the marketplace for the past two years, and we’re ready to defend our championship title with All-Star Baseball 2004."

All-Star Baseball 2004 will ship at the end of February for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube and Game Boy Advance.
