Bye Bye To The Swan Handheld...

February 19th, 2003 (12:00am) - Recently Bandai revealed that it will reduce its production and distribution of the company’s Swan Crystal system, shipping system numbers based on orders it receives. The company will continue to produce software for the system for the time being, but it has no plans on following up the system with another Swan successor.
The first Swan Handheld, designed by the original Gameboy creator Gumpei Yokoi, was released in the summer of 1999. The system was followed-up with the WonderSwan Color in 2001 and the WonderSwan Crystal in 2002. In the system’s four-year life-span, it only managed to etch out about eight percent of Japan’s total handheld videogame market.

"We decided to make a change at our hand-held game business after WonderSwan sales failed to meet our expectations," Bandai President Takeo Takasu said to the press. The company reports that it will be a supporter and developer of the Game Boy Advance system, as proven with the already-released Digimon: Battle Spirits GBA title.

~ditto~
