ATi looking to develop graphics chip for the successor to the GameCube…
February 26th, 2003 (12:00am) - Take a look at your GameCube…If you haven’t notice before, on the bottom right hand corner of your GameCube there is this little sticker that says “Graphics by ATi”. ATi is the company who helped make the GameCube the visual powerhouse that it is today, so it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that ATi is planning to develop the graphics chip for the GameCube’s successor. But according to Dave Rolston, ATi’s Vice Presidnent of engineering, ATi is also greatly interested in a partnership for Microsoft’s next console as well. Though, Microsoft has already seemed to agree on partnering with Nvidia, ATi’s biggest competitor, whose chips are already found in Microsoft’s Xbox. While negotiations continue, Nintendo still plans to release the GameCube’s successor in 2005.
