Nintendo and Sega take top honors at the Digital Content Grand Prix 2003 ceremony in Tokyo…
March 18th, 2003 (12:00am) - Today in Tokyo, the Japanese Ministry of Trade held a ceremony called the Digital Content Grand Prix 2003. At this event Nintendo and Sega won awards for their respective game titles Super Mario Sunshine and Rez. Nintendo’s Super Mario Sunshine was rewarded with grand prize honors, and Rez getting acclaim for its sound. Both games had been overlooked by the gaming public (well not really Super Mario Sunshine but it wasn’t exactly the Super Mario 64 sequel everyone had expected) despite the continuing praise of both game titles, hopefully these awards will garner the games a bit more attention. The ceremony also awarded an Outstanding Achievement award to the game producer Shibusawa Kou. Shibusawa, who has dedicated the last 29 years of his life to the industry, is known for his work with game developer Koei on such franchises such as Kessen and Nobunaga’s Ambition.
