Mario Kart for the GameCube to feature LAN play!

April 17th, 2003 (12:00am) - It’s been known for awhile that Nintendo won’t go with the online route with the next Mario Kart. Of course, that was a huge disappointment to many, since many Nintendo fans (Including myself) believe that Mario Kart Online could quite possibly be the coolest online game to date. Well, according to the Japanese website Quiter, Mario Kart for the GameCube has been confirmed to feature 8 player versus mode over a LAN connection, by none other than Nintendo’s own Shigeru Miyamoto. Think it’s not possible? Well, Nintendo has been toying with LAN gaming for awhile, and proof of this can be seen as far back as last year’s E3, where Sega debuted Phantasy Star Card Battle where two GameCube’s where used to play over a LAN connection.

This is a great piece of news for those hoping for online play with the GameCube installment of Mario Kart. However, if you have a broadband connection, it is very likely that you can indeed play the game online, as did Xbox owners with the original Halo.
