Namco and Sega to merge…

April 17th, 2003 (12:00am) - Sega hasn’t been in the best possible position in the gaming industry for years now, and after the merger with Sammy earlier in the year not much has changed. That’s where Namco comes into play. Namco has offered for a merger with Sega, which, if it would happen, would create the biggest Japanese gaming company in the business with sales expected around 350 billion yen, or 3 billion dollars!

A spokeswoman from Namco has said:

“Though we have been considered rival companies, we believe a merger would help both firms increase our competitiveness," said a Namco spokeswoman.

"We have asked Sega to consider it last year," she said, declining to disclose other details about the request.

The announcement of the merger has caused Sega socks to shoot up approximately 16 percent.
