July 16^th, 2003 (12:00am) - During the 80s the anime scene exploded thanks to the historic anime series known as Robotech. Robotech was based off the Japanese Super Dimensional Fortress anime.

Macross, the first and most recognized chapter in the Robotech saga, has spun off numerous video games over the decades, with the most recent being Robotech Battlecry, which was released sometime last year under Harmony Gold’s Robotech label, and developed by TDK. With that said, there really hasn’t been a great Macross game for fans of the series to enjoy. Sure, Battlecry was close, but it was still missing something, and I think that was the fun. So, Sega’s great AM2 of Shenmue and Virtua Fighter fame have stepped up to the plate.

For little more than a month, there were rumors floating around about AM2’s newest game. Many thought it would be the long awaited Shenmue 3. Well the speculation is over. The rumored AM2 title is a game based off the classic Macross saga.

Being handled by the AM2 team which developed the Aero Dancing series, Macross plans to recreate the action scenes that enthralled television audiences years ago, instead of providing the simulation type Macross games we’ve seen over the past years.

AM2’s Macross game is at 70% completion, and it plans to deliver some awesome Veritech action in space as well on the ruins of Earth this October in Japan, exclusively for the PlayStation 2. Unfortunately, the chances of this game coming stateside are slim, seeing how Sega would have to go through hell with Harmony Gold just to release the game.
