Some 3DO Properties Purchased
August 15th, 2003 (12:00am) - At an auction held yesterday Namco, Ubi Soft, and Microsoft purchased some of 3DO’s licenses and games, the few that were actually worth buying. The upcoming street racer Street Racing Syndicate was picked up by veteran video game publisher Namco for just a bit over 1.5 million dollars. Street Racing Syndicate was one of those few upcoming new 3DO franchises that seemed very promising. Before 3DO went bankrupt the development for Street Racing Syndicate had already been completed, so I would expect a multiplatform release this Fall. The Might and Magic, Heroes of Might and Magic properties were purchased by Ubi Soft for approximately 1.3 million. Finally, High Heat Baseball… Well this is easily the hottest product 3DO has ever had, with the recent High Heat Baseball 2004 arguably being the best baseball game released this year. Well, Microsoft snatched this one up for an undisclosed amount of money, but it will probably end up being a very wise decision in the long run for Microsoft. Rumor has it that Microsoft may dump its Inside Pitch baseball franchise and replace it with High Heat.
