TimeGate Studios Chooses NDL’s Gamebryo for Kohan: Kings of War

September 17th, 2003 (12:00am) - NDL, a leading developer of 3D graphics technology for the computer and video game industry, announced today that Gamebryo is being used by TimeGate Studios to help develop Kohan: Kings of War, a sequel to the award-winning Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns.

"We wanted to maintain the engrossing gameplay of the first installment while giving Kings of War a bolder, more updated look and feel," said Adel Chaveleh, President of TimeGate Studios. "With NDL’s history of hit titles in vastly different genres, we felt very comfortable selecting Gamebryo for this project and others to come."

After seeing the game at E3, GameSpot quoted, "Much of the game’s graphics will be powered by NDL’s Gamebryo engine, and what we’ve seen so far looks very clean and quite good."

TimeGate is adding various improvements over the original game, including a full 3D environment. Many new effects have been added to Kings of War to give the game a very realistic look and feel. Gamebryo has helped the development team create life-like characters while including masses of them on a screen at one time.

The technology’s ability to render several characters in the engine has allowed the engineers to focus more on gameplay and creativity, such as creating a variety of interesting new characters. The Gamebryo animation and character tools have allowed TimeGate’s artists to more intuitively create animation sequences while controlling the behavior of a large number of characters visible at any given time.

"TimeGate experienced great success with the release of Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns and we’re thrilled to be a part of the sequel," said John Austin, President of NDL. "The TimeGate team has been working diligently on Kings of War to create new features and gameplay that will have gamers wanting to experience the game over and over."

Revealed at E3 2003, Computer Gaming World named Kings of War one of the ‘Top 10 Games from E3.’ Steve Butts with IGN PC wrote, "Kohan was easily one of the top five strategy games of 2001 and with the same team behind the sequel and a substantial step forward in terms of technology, Kings of War is definitely one of the top five strategy games I’m most looking forward to in the coming year."

TimeGate’s new web site, www.timegate.com, gives players the inside scoop on Kings of War, including never before seen concept art, storylines, units and heroes.
