Mario 128 for the GameCube’s Successor?
November 6th, 2003 (12:00am) - Many GameCube fans remember the tech demo Mario 128 from SpaceWorld a few years back. Many thought that Mario 128 would be the first Super Mario game for the GameCube console. That wasn’t the case. However, according to numerous sources, Mario 128 did appear on the GameCube in some form, and that was as Pikmin, which was rumored to be developed with the Mario 128 concept in mind.
At E3 in May, like always, Nintendo representatives such as Shigeru Miyamoto and Satoru Iwata were attacked with a horde of questions. Down the line, someone asked about Mario 128… It was soon revealed that it was an actual game in development for the GameCube, one rumored to be the GameCube’s “swan song” (last great game) before the release of the GameCube’s successor. In an interview with CNN money, Nintendo of America’s George Harrison revealed some new information concerning Mario 128. Mr. Harrison suggested that Mario 128 may not see the light on day on the GameCube. Instead, while still in development for the GameCube at the moment, it may be moved to Nintendo’s next console. Nintendo has made it clear that the Next Nintendo console will launch with a Super Mario game. Will it be Mario 128? Maybe…
