The Nintendo DS Earning Developer Praise
February 15th, 2004 (12:00am) - When first announced, the Nintendo DS wasn’t received well by the public, at least not as much as Nintendo would have liked. However, as time passes… news, rumors, and minor details begin to trickle out from underneath Nintendo’s shroud and many gamers and Nintendo fans alike cannot help but be interested in Nintendo’s “third pillar.” With that said, neither can the developers. Slowly but surely, the game industry’s top developers are becoming more and more interested in Nintendo’s Dual Screened portable and here are some of their comments: Toshihiro Nagoshi of SEGA’s Amusement Vision -“I read about it first and I was very surprised. I think the system represents the desires of both players and developers. There are some many ideas to explore which were previously impossible.” Koji Okada of Atlus - “This is the way of the future - having two screens operated by two CPUs. It will force developers and players to think differently and thats important in this industry.” Takanobu Terada of Banpresto - “The dual-screen setup maybe a hurdle for most developers. The handheld market is important for us and were making preparations for it. We want Nintendo DS and Sony PSP to enliven the handheld market this year.” Hiroyuki Takahashi of Camelot Software - “Ive always been a fan of Nintendos hardware, and the DS will allow developers to create games that were previously impossible. As a producer and a player, Im very excited about the hardware. Were looking forward to E3.” Shibuawa Kou of Koei – “For war-simulations which feature large battles we can have the action separated between the screens.” Akira Yoshizumi of Namco - “Initially I thought the DS was going to be a remake of Nintendos "Game & Watch" handheld line. I was excited but also somewhat puzzled. Theres a sense of anxiety about the hardware.” Yuji Naka of Sonic Team - “Were looking forward to it. We definitely want to have software available for it at launch.”
