Soul Calibur on the Big Screen

March 3rd, 2004 (12:00am) - According to Empire Online, the rights to a film based on Namco’s Soul Calibur game property have been purchased by an undisclosed member of the Hollywood scene. At the current time details are scarce, but we’ll keep you updated.

It should be noted that rights to movies based on other popular game properties, such as Eternal Darkness, Perfect Dark, Crazy Taxi, and Metroid, have been purchased, but not a single one of them ever made it onto theatre screens. In addition, the transition of game to movie (and vice versa) seems to be a cursed path, with only a handful being worthwhile, such as Resident Evil and the first Mortal Kombat movie. Take that as you will.
