Factor 5 Update: Abandoning Nintendo They Are Not

April 15th, 2004 (12:00am) - Yesterday the Nintendo community had been shaken up when IGN contacted Julian Eggebrecht, president of Factor 5, and had received word that Factor 5 would no longer be developing titles for Nintendo’s GameCube console. However, GameSpot went on to clarify the sketchy details reported by IGN on the situation.

While Factor 5 may have stopped the development of game titles on the Nintendo GameCube, they will NOT go on to develop for Microsoft’s or Sony’s game platforms for this current generation of consoles. Factor 5 has now moved onto next-generation development. Whether any of the company’s future titles will be for the GameCube’s successor or the successors to any of the other current platforms is presently unknown. Despite what many may think, Factor 5 is a third party developer and not exclusive to Nintendo in any way.

"We are extremely excited about both DS and GCNext, so any talk of us abandoning Nintendo platforms altogether is just not true. It is simply because we have moved into next-generation development."

Mr. Eggebrecht ended his conversation with GameSpot by stating "there might be a surprise coming from us.”

On a final note, let it be known that Factor 5 has been rumored to be in development with a new Pilotwings game for the GameCube’s successor for quite some time.

For those who do not know, Pilotwings is a Nintendo flight franchise that first debuted on the Super Nintendo with Pilotwings,a which received a sequel with the Nintendo 64 launch title Pilotwings 64.
