Nintendo Announces its Game Boy Advance Milestones
June 3rd, 2004 (12:00am) - Nintendo has released a list of facts showcasing the milestones the company has reached with their Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Advance SP handhelds.
From the list, shown below, it seems that Nintendo is restating their dominance in the handheld market before the entrance of their first real competitor since the SEGA Game Gear. Game Boy Advance facts • Launched in June 2001. • In 30 days it reached 1 million sales. • In 90 days it reached 2 million sales. • By the end of 2001 it had sold more than 4.7 million. • In its first 12 months it sold more than 6.5 million. Game Boy Advance SP facts • Launched in March 2003. • In its first week it sold 400,000. • In its first 12 months it sold 6.75 million. Franchise facts • More Game Boy Advance units have sold in the past two years than the original Game Boy sold in its first eight years. • Since its launch, the Game Boy Advance line has sold more than 21 million units. • Since its launch the Game Boy Advance has outsold PlayStation 2 in the United States. • The entire Game Boy franchise has outsold the entire PlayStation franchise. Software facts To date, more than 500 games are available for Game Boy Advance.
