Sonic the Hedgehog Turns Thirteen

June 23rd, 2004 (12:00am) - Today, Sonic the Hedgehog turns thirteen... Sonic, had once been one of the most recognizable franchise characters in the video game industry during the days of the SEGA Genesis and Super Nintendo. To this very day, Sonic the Hedgehog still stands as the only non-Nintendo video game mascot to ever give the infamous Super Mario a run for his money. Since his debut in 1991, Sonic has appeared in over thirty game titles across sixteen different video game platforms. Additionally, Sonic has also starred in numerous animated cartoons, been created into an action figure line, starred in his own children’s books, and even appeared as a massive float during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. However, over the years, Sonic’s popularity has been on the decline; mostly in part of SEGA’s falling from grace in the videogame industry. Besides that point, we here at GamersMark wish the blue hedgehog a happy birthday and pray that his next home console effort will reflect the quality and enjoyment found in the classic SEGA Genesis titles.
