Ubisoft Passes Eidos for Codemasters; EA Offers $300m
August 9th, 2004 (12:00am) - According to yesterday’s reports, a Ubisoft purchase of Eidos Interactive had basically been a done deal. However, MCV (www.mcvuk.com) is reporting that Ubisoft has dropped their interest in Eidos Interactive and is now looking towards a purchase of UK-based developer and publisher Codemasters. A Ubisoft purchase of Codemasters would strengthen Ubisoft’s lineup considerably, acquiring properties including Colin McCrae Rally and TOCA Race Driver. As for the Eidos situation. Ubisoft’s departure from the scene leaves Electronic Arts and THQ as contenders for a possible purchase. According to reports EA is leading the bid with their first offer of $300m. It is believed that no other party will attempt to outbid EA at the current moment.
