Ubisoft Buyout of Codemasters Nothing More Than A Rumor
August 10th, 2004 (12:00am) - On Sunday we reported that Ubisoft is “now looking towards a purchase of UK-based developer and publisher Codemasters.” While this may indeed still be a possibility, Codemasters clarified its stance, denouncing reports that a transaction between the two parties had actually occurred.
"As a thriving and successful privately-owned games publisher, we receive a lot of attention from other parties," said senior UK spokesperson, Max Everingham. "But we are not for sale and the Ubisoft rumor is exactly that, and no more." In similar news, no new details have come up regarding the rumored $300m Electronic Arts has offered UK-based published Eidos Interactive. At the moment, representatives and board members from all sides have refused to comment.
