Ubisoft Wages War With Alexander the Great
August 12th, 2004 (12:00am) - Alexander the Great is known as one of history’s greatest military leaders. It would only seem appropriate if a real-time strategy game (RTS) were developed to bring the legendary Greek onto the videogame scene, and that is exactly what Ubisoft is planning to do with Alexander for the PC.
Alexander is based on the upcoming Alexander the Great film directed by Oliver Stone. The game will exclusively appear on the PC platform on the same day of release as the film this coming November. "We are extremely excited to bring the grandeur and epic experience of the film Alexander to the video game arena," said Laurent Detoc, executive director of Ubisofts North American division. "Our development team is thrilled to be working with director Oliver Stone to ensure that the video game captures the essence of this extraordinary motion picture. The game will include selected music from world famous composer Vangelis -- whose music comprises the films soundtrack -- movie extracts, and other features to make sure that the game is as daring, bold and ambitious as its subject, Alexander the Great." In Alexander, players will experience the epic scope of Alexanders conquests via historic campaigns, each with unique characteristics and resource management challenges, and featuring heroes from Alexander the Greats era. The game will also feature real-time battles using formations, combat and authentic military tactics that must be mastered while commanding vast armies in foreign lands. With Ubisoft’s recent winning streak of quality games, expect Alexander to deliver a great warring experience this November.
