DS Becomes a Telephone
August 31st, 2004 (12:00am) - In its report today, TNI Securities announced that the recently announced headset port and headset peripheral will be used in conjunction with Voice-Over-IP chat capabilities. In other words, through Wi-Fi connections and the headset, people will be able to make free phonecalls using the same technique that Vonage employs.
The report, which is intended for investors in the electronic games industry, continues on to reveal TNI’s opinion that this will "help drive adoption among the increasingly connected younger gaming audience." The Memo of Boris Malkovich, an industry analyst, said, "The headset will allow gamers to use the DS as a phone handset enabling free phone calls over wireless network hotspots. We think that this will be a very compelling application of the handset..." The memo goes on to explain that his research continues to suggest that the DS will launch in Japan and the US simultaneously in 2004. We will have more on this interesting development as more information becomes available. Stay tuned. Reported by Brad Mosbacher on August 31st, 2004 (12:00am) [From: Gamespot]
