Sony Announces Cut Down PS2

September 21st, 2004 (12:00am) - Sony has finally released details on its newer, smaller version of the PS2, and it’s called the SCPH-70000, although it’s fully expected to be renamed the "PSTwo" for launch, on November 1st.

The systems volume has been reduced by 75%, the weigh cut by 50%, and the thickness around 60% making this a very compact machine.

This means however that the Hard Drive, used for online games like Final Fantasy XI can not be used, since the machine is too small to fit it in, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go online. Sony has included an Ethernet port and a dial up port on the machine, nullifying the need to buy a seperate adaptor.

A price point hasn’t been announced, but expect it to be lower than the current PS2 price. Check out the picture below to see a comparison of the two seperate models side by side.
