Warp Pipe Becomes a Company... Funded or Owned by Nintendo?
September 27th, 2004 (12:00am) - Lately there have been countless mysteries arising. There has been the mystery about Soul Calibur and PSO DS, the Japanese Zelda release date, and the GoldenEye DS information and the launch date for the new generation of consoles, to name a few. However, the latest mysterious rumor comes to face.
Warp Pipe, the organization responsible for the tunneling software on the GameCube, has now become a financially stable company, funded by someone. Who is that someone? That itself is the grand mystery. Evidence has arisen to place Nintendo as the benefactor, or even possibly the owner of the fledgling company. This would explain Nintendo’s adamant eagerness to find a free way to allow people to play games online. They have made their stance against "pay to play" online gaming known several times throughout this generation of consoles. They are often quoted to come out at full strength once they find a viable business solution for online gaming, and if the above holds true, they may have indeed found an answer to their problem. On top of this, Team Warp Pipe has been quoted saying "We will be paid, but not by the end consumer. I appreciate your willingness to do so directly. If you wish to contribute, simply purchase games with your favorite green logo on the box." Could this mean that future consoles and the DS are going online? I guess we will just have to find out, wont we? Reported by Brad Mosbacher on September 27th, 2004 (12:00am) [From: Warp Pipe Forums]
