Intec Announces Star Wars Licensing Agreement
September 30th, 2004 (12:00am) - Intec, Inc., a manufacture of cross-platform video game accessories, has announced that the company has secured a deal with Lucasfilm Ltd. for the licensing rights to create Star Wars-branded video game controllers for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. These specialized controllers will include wireless controllers and, in 2005, ones that will introduce new video game technologies that Intec claims will "highten gamers experiences" while playing these latest Star Wars games. “Since the beginning of Star Wars, Lucasfilm has developed solid licensing partnerships to ensure the brand remains synonymous with a high-quality, adventurous galactic experience,” said Howard Roffman, president of Lucas Licensing. “Intec’s product line will add onto this experience, and we look forward to increasing our fans’ gaming experience through their innovative video game accessories.” “Our Star Wars video games have been extremely well received by fans across the nation, from last year’s Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic to this month’s Star Wars Battlefront,” said Mary Bihr, vice president of Global Publishing for LucasArts. “This partnership with Intec will finally allow Star Wars fans the opportunity to experience the same high-quality in accessories as they have in our video games for years.” “Star Wars is one of the most recognized brands in entertainment,” said Mark Stanley, vice president of Marketing at Intec. “We are very excited to develop innovative video game accessories that will not only give gamers a more immersive Star Wars gaming experience, but also further extend the brand’s reach across North America.” Intecs first controllers will make their debut this holiday season, just in time for the release of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords and Star Wars: Republic Commando. However, the company plans on releasing another round of controllers to coincide with the release of the Star Wars: Episode III video game on May 5th, 2005.
