PSP In Limited Supply for Japanese Launch

November 25th, 2004 (8:46pm) - The PSP is launching on Dec. 12th in Japan but recent reports have been saying that retailers may not have enough units to supply consumers at launch.

Sony has revealed that only 200,000 units will be available at launch, with 100,000 more being shipped every week till the end of the year (making for 500,000) units available in December.

"On day one we will be shipping 200,000 units nationwide, which is really not that big of a number," said Yoshiko Furusawa, a spokeswoman for Sony. "Each retailer’s allocation will not be (a lot) so some small retailers might not get an allocation."

Retailers are expressing their concerns because Sony has failed to inform them on how many units of the handheld they will be receiving, because of this they have been reluctant to hold pre-orders for the platform.
