November NPD Software and Hardware Sales Charts

December 10th, 2004 (1:54am) - November is the most important month of the year in the gaming industry. It is the month which most of industry’s biggest and most anticipated games of the year reach store shelves and 2004’s November sales charts have arrived.

Thanks to the release of Halo 2 and the growing popularity of the Xbox and its Xbox Live online gaming service, Microsoft is swimming in a pool of dollar bills and success. Not only is Halo 2 the best selling game of the month, selling through 3 million units in North America alone, but the Xbox has outsold both its home console competitors, with the GameCube taking a significant drop in sales compared to last year’s numbers. In addition, Metroid Prime 2, the GameCube’s biggest game of the year, has failed to break 200,000 units, less than half of what its predecessor managed to sell in the month of November when it was first release. However, Nintendo has proven that their handheld efforts are continuing to be amongst the most popular platforms in the industry, with the Nintendo DS making its debut with 479,000 units sold and with the Game Boy Advance selling through one million units.
