MP3s And More Coming To Nintendo Handhelds Everywhere
December 16th, 2004 (1:21pm) - Not to be outdone by Sonys handheld media monster, the PSP, Nintendo has released new details about their upcoming media player adapter for both the Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS.
Utilizing a special cartridge slash flash card reader, this new device, tentatively called Play-Yan, will allow anyone that owns either of Nintendos hit handhelds to listen to MP3s and watch MPEG4 videos on the go, all for a price thats far less than youd expect. Technical Information:
- Supported Mediums: SecureDigital Cards
- Supported Media Formats: MPEG-4 (352x288, 1.5Mbps MAX), MP3 (32-320kbps VBR MAX)
- Features: 4 Level Brightness (Use L/R), Folder thumbnails, Rewind/FastForward (Use D-Pad), Displays ID3 Tags (Japanese character support), Playlist mode, Resume playback.
- Battery Life: 4hrs (Video), 8hrs (Audio + Display mode), 15hrs (Audio)
- Available: NCL Online Store (Not available in shops) - February 2005, ~5,000 Yen ($47 USD)
Details and specific information are still sketchy at this point, including North American pricing and release information, although it seems a sure hit in any market. More Play-Yan info as it becomes available.
