Sam Fisher on the Silver Screen
December 17th, 2004 (8:34pm) - Videogame developers and publishers often option the rights to making feature films based on videogame characters and franchises. The latest videogame series set to make a possible transition to the silver screen is Tom Clancys Splinter Cell.
Paramount Pictures has announced that they have acquired the rights to create a film based on Ubisofts extremely popular Splinter Cell videogame series. Directing the film is actor/director Peter Berg, who is known for directing such films as "Friday Night Lights" and "The Rundown." Berg will also be working with writers J.T. Petty and John J. McLaughlin to create the films script and act as an executive producer alongside Michael Clancy and Yves Guillemot. Michael Ovitz will be producing the film. Unlike most planned videogame to movie transitions, Splinter Cell seems to be a done deal. No word on a tentative release date.
