Electronic Arts Invests in Ubisoft

December 20th, 2004 (3:04am) - Just last week it was announced that Electronic Arts had entered an agreement with the National Football League that would guarantee EA exclusive rights in using NFL teams and players in their sports videogames. As expected, many gamers expressed ill feelings and fowl words towards EA and if you thought that announcement was earth shattering, the the news we have for readers today is sure to get even more gamers upset. Electronic Arts has announced its purchased of 19.9 percent of shares in French third-party publisher Ubisoft.

The shares had been purchased as a block from Talpa Beheer B.V. and are to be completed upon obtaining antitrust clearance from the U.S. government. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Ubisoft is one of the industry’s largest, most successful third-party publishers. Thanks to blockbuster videogames such as Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, Ghost Recon 2, FarCry, and Rainbow Six 3, Ubisoft has established itself as one of the best publishers in the business.
