Starbreeze Enters the Darkness
December 21st, 2004 (12:54am) - In early November videogame publisher Majesco announced that they had tabbed Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay developer Starbreeze to develop videogames for the next generation of videogame consoles. According to numerous reports surfacing today, one of the next-generation games being developed by Starbreeze for Majesco will be a videogame based on a comic book series called "The Darkness." Not too long ago it was revealed that Majesco had acquired the rights to create a videogame based on the comic book, however, the news of Starbreeze being the game’s developer came from an interview at The Hollywood Report.com conducted with Union Entertainment co-founder and movie producer Sean O’Keefe. "A good case in point is the Swedish developer Starbreeze, which used a dynamic shadow technology to build The Chronicles Of Riddick," commented O’Keefe. "We hoped to use the same technology in another game based on the comic book The Darkness... and so it was a natural to package Starbreeze with The Darkness since they already have an appropriate engine and don´t have to re-invent the wheel." These words essentially confirm the game’s existence and Starbreeze as the developer. The comic book’s plot focuses on a 21 year old assassin who inherits a family secret. He hosts a power known as "the darkness". A film adaptation of the comic is also in the planning stages at Dimension Films.
