Media Create’s Japanese Software and Hardware Sales for the Dec. 13 - Dec. 19, 2004

December 23rd, 2004 (11:38pm) - Software
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater has finally made its debut in Japan and as expected it is a successful one. Snake Eater tops off Media Create’s latest software charts with Namco’s Tales of Rebirth following it in second, a highly anticipated RPG that also made a strong debut. Interestingly, many of games which appeared in the top ten last week have seen a slight rise in sales.

Here are the Top 10 Japanese game titles for the week of Dec. 13 - Dec. 19, 2004:

Hardware
On the hardware front, the Nintendo DS is once again showing strong sales. Earlier this week Nintendo released a statement saying that they have broken 2 million units in Nintendo DS hardware sales worldwide, estimating that 2.8 million will be sold by the end of the month. With the dual-screened handheld pulling in numbers such as these, we can easily see why Nintendo’s numbers are so optimistic. PSP sales on the other hand aren’t faring as well as they had last week due to hardware production shortages. Nevertheless, Sony’s debut handheld is faring well in the marketplace.

Here are the Hardware sales for the week of Dec. 13 - Dec. 19, 2004:

System - Sales this week - Total this year
Nintendo DS - 221,625 - 889,400
PlayStation 2 - 112,970 - 2,503,532
PSP - 85,059 - 245,078
Game Boy Advance SP - 80,271 - 2,340,693
GameCube - 29,991 - 588,528
