First Details and Images of Nintendo’s Polarium for the DS

February 2nd, 2005 (10:58pm) - Nintendo has secretly released some new images and details regarding a new Nintendo DS game, a puzzle game that goes by the name Polarium. Polarium is being co-developed by Mitchell, a relatively unknown developer, and Nintendo and is scheduled to see a release on April 18th.

In Polarium players will use the stylus to draw lines – as you draw lines, tiles will flip from black to white or white to black. Once a horizontal line is all one color, it will disappear. In Challenge Mode, draw lines to clear the board as patterns continuously drop from the upper screen, falling faster and faster through 10 levels of difficulty. In Puzzle mode, solve 100 single-screen puzzles by drawing a single, continuous line to clear the entire board.

Of course, Polarium will also feature gameplay modes which allow players to design their own puzzles, send a demo of the game to anyone with a Nintendo DS and wirelessly compete in multiplayer matches with a friend. In multiplayer, as you clear lines, they’ll appear on your opponent’s screen, which is visible to you on the upper screen of your DS. Clear lines with question marks on them to get power-ups that make your lines clear faster, block out your foe’s border, reverse his or her tiles and more.
