EA wants more of Ubisoft
February 10th, 2005 (7:51pm) - Reuters is reporting that Electronic Arts (EA), the videogame industrys largest third-party publisher, may be looking to add to its stake in Ubisoft. With a 19.77 percent stake in the French publisher, EA is already Ubisofts largest shareholder and has 20.88 percent of the publishers voting rights.
Last month, in a conference call, EA managers said that it wanted "keep all its options open regarding this investment in Ubisoft and could buy more Ubisoft shares, possibly a controlling stake". On Wednesday EA reiterated this statement, implying that they make in the planning stages of purchasing a larger stake in the company. Ubisoft has stated that it considers EAs actions to be "hostile". However, since EA purchased shares in the company Ubisofts share prices have risen 80 percent.
