Media Create’s Japanese Software and Hardware Sales for the Feb. 14 - Feb. 20, 2005

February 26th, 2005 (2:51am) - Software
Software for the PlayStation 2 dominates the Media Create sales charts for the week of February 14th as Devil May Cry 3 makes its debut in the number one spot with last week’s chart topper, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, tailing it in second place as it breaks half a million units sold. Unfortunately, the GameCube’s Resident Evil 4 has dropped out of the top ten, while the high profile Gran Turismo 4 gets a few inches closer to selling one million units in Japan alone.

Here are the Top 10 Japanese game titles for the week of Feb. 14 - Feb. 20, 2005:

Game Title, (Platform, Publisher) - Units Sold During the Week - Total Sales
1. Devil May Cry 3 (PS2, Capcom) - 194,530 - new

3. Rumble Roses (PS2, Konami) - 73,935 - new
4. D1 Grand Prix (PS2, Yukes) - 26,286 - new
5. Gladiator: Road to Freedom (PS2, Ertain) - 14,336 - new

7. Popolocrois Monotagari: Pietoro Ouji no Bouken (PS2, SCE) - 11,945 - 45,715
8. Yoshi’s Touch & Go! (NDS, Nintendo) - 11,591 - 120,669
9. Shinseki Yusha Daisen (NDS, Atlus) - 10,487 - new
10. Minna no Golf Portable (PS2, SCE) - 10,353 - n/a

Hardware
After tailing the PSP for a few weeks, the PlayStation 2 has finally jumped back to the top of the sales charts, however for the sixth week in a row, the PSP has outsold Nintendo’s DS. Is this a sign of Sony’s coming handheld dominance? Or is it a sign of Nintendo’s poor marketing and release date scheduling? You make the decision.

Here are the Hardware sales for the week of Feb. 14 - Feb. 20, 2005:

System - Sales this week - Total this year
1. PlayStation 2 - 38,954 - 432,091

3. Nintendo DS - 22,363 - 328,042
