Rumor: Revolution controller to feature flip-top screen?

March 7th, 2005 (6:06pm) - It seems that a new rumor concerning Nintendo’s next-generation home console, code named "Revolution," has surfaced and is causing quite the ruckus across videogame forum communities. The original article surfaced at the forums of N-Philes and said the following:

About thirty minutes ago, I received an E-Mail from a buddy of mine that I graduated college with that now works for EA in their Florida location. The E-Mail stated the Revolution controller would feature a flip-top screen. Here’s the E-Mail:

"...on Friday we had our weekly meeting with our technical director who obtained some info from some Nintendo. Since yer big time Nintendo ill tell you what he told us. The controller for their next system is gonna have a touch screen that flips on the backside of it. My boss tells me Nintendo wants developers to have an extra tool and provided a list of recommended features this can be used for. Some were cool and some were just ok. We are going to use it a playbook in the next Madden (btw I told you we would get the license!) so you can hide your plays if you play with buddies and also a grid to hold certain gameplans on. From the meeting I can tell he is in love with this feature already. example you can press on the grid that says 3 yard plays and choose a from a selection of plays that you input for those short yardage situations. The list also included stuff like using it for FPS to see behind you to avoid turtlers like me who hide in corners and try to ambush you so I don’t like that use :\ My boss said he got a lot more info the controller that in how words "is ****ing sweet" but cant say anything else due to stupid nda’s and ****. Ill let you know some more when I get some more info...

EK"

I don’t claim this as fact, but I’m 99.9% certain this individual would not lie to me. Still, all I can gurantee you is that he’s a good guy and this E-Mail is damn cool. Wait till E3, and we’ll see for sure I hope.

Is there any truth to this newest rumor regarding Nintendo’s next-gen home console? Well, at a June 2004 analyst briefing in Japan, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stated that "We have no intention of making a two screen console akin to the DS." Because of this, we here at GamersMark will be adding this rumor to a growing list of many others that have yet to be officially disproven or proven.
