March 9^th, 2005 (12:54am) - Sega and UK-based The Creative Assembly have announced that they’ve entered into a partnership to develop Spartan: Total Warrior for home consoles, the developer’s first home console videogame. The Creative Assembly is best known for it’s Total War series of strategy games.

"All of us at Creative Assembly are delighted to be working with Sega, who share our vision of creating genre-defining games," said Tim Ansell, managing director of The Creative Assembly. "Spartan: Total Warrior is an original gameplay experience based upon dynamic, epic action-combat and we could find no better global partner than Sega, who wrote the book on console gaming."

In Spartan: Total Warrior, players will take the role of a brave warrior who will participate in great battles filled with massive armies, beasts and monsters. These grand battles will take place in various locales around the world, including large cities, eerie dungeons, mountaintops, desert wastelands and even the the Imperial Coliseum in Rome. Players will have a large number of combo attacks and finishing moves at their disposal with both melee and range weapons, as well an array of defensive maneuvers and evasions.

"With Spartan: Total Warrior, Creative Assembly has developed a title that offers both dynamic, real-time combat sequences and epic-sized battles; a combination that has never been technically accomplished on this generation of hardware," added Scott A. Steinberg, vice president of marketing, Sega of America. "This partnership underscores Sega’s strategy to publish more great game content designed to appeal to western gamers."

Spartan: Total Warrior is currently scheduled for release in September on the PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube.
