Square Enix considering the development of next-gen Xbox games

March 11th, 2005 (1:16pm) - As many of you may know, Microsoft has made an effort to sign Japanese developers to develop exclusive videogames made to appeal to Japanese audiences (as well as general gaming audiences worldwide) for the next-gen Xbox console. While these efforts may not be enough to completely captivate the Japanese gamer, they’re further steps in the right direction. Arguably, earning the support of publisher/developer Square Enix would be key in earning the support of the Japanese gamer and it seems that there’s a possibility of that happening.

According to Bloomberg Japan, Michiro Sasaki, Square Enix’s general manager for corporate planning, has said that Square Enix is considering making titles for the next Xbox.

Sasaki-san’s statement should still be taken lightly. Before merging with Enix, Square had mentioned that they had also considered developing for the Xbox platform, however, we’ve seen that nothing ever came from that statement.

We’ll keep you posted if anything interesting turns up.
