PSX rises from the dead

March 16th, 2005 (9:33am) - It had been believed that Sony had stopped production on the PSX for good late last month. However, news has surfaced that Sony will be resurrecting the PSX in a model that is capable of outputting video onto a Memory Stick in a format that can be read on Sony’s PlayStation Portable (PSP). This feature is the newest to a machine that already combines the gaming features of the PlayStation 2 with a DVD burner, hard drive video recorder, music player, and a number of other multimedia features. This new feature will be available on the new DESR-5700 and DESR-7700 models.

These new models are expected to available at price points similar to previous models of the machine, since its features are relatively unchanged, aside from this PSP trick. Unfortunately, it is being said that the time at which the system encodes video for the PSP is extremely lengthy. For example, it could possibly take more than an hour to save a twenty minute TV show onto a Memory Stick.
