Next-Gen Xbox Controller to be Longhorn Compatible
April 27th, 2005 (9:25am) - During the Microsoft Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) 2005, Microsoft revealed that the controller for the next-generation Xbox video game console will be compatible with the next version of their Windows operating system, currently titled "Longhorn."
Will Poole, senior vice president and head of the Windows Client Business unit, revealed at the event that Longhorn will support natively the next-generation game controller. Some might remember that back at the Game Developers Conference in 2004, Microsoft stated that they will develop a common controller reference design, as well as unify input APIs and button standards across multiple platforms. Hardware manufacturers will also be able to develop cross-platform game peripherals and input devices by using XNA. Reported by Kyle Johnson on April 27th, 2005 (9:25am) [From: TeamXbox]
