Square-Enix Wants a Revolution?
May 12th, 2005 (2:06am) - Square-Enix president Youichi Wada was recently interviewed by Japanese website Impress Game Watch, and the content suggests good things both for Nintendos online plans (networking) and the upcoming "Revolution" console.
Responding to Nintendo president Satoru Iwatas recent comments on the companys upcoming networking plans, Wada gives praise for the ideas mirrored in the plan. Also, Wada suggests Nintendo could bring new users to Online gaming. Wada seems to be most impressed with a particularly controversial side of Nintendos Online plan, in which Nintendo is allowing players to connect only with players whom theyve met in real life. Its unclear how strict Nintendo plans to be with this (Animal Crossing DS is reported to be unrestricted by this), but Wada applauds this plan. "It gives the image of taking the real world seamlessly into the virtual world," says Wada. "The means of building a community will be completely different, and support and services will also change." "What increased our interest further," says Wada in regards to the networking plan, "is that the next step is already being prepared for Revolution." Nintendos networking plan according to Wada, is "not just a portable, not just a console -- its exactly what we wanted in that its the birth of a completely new platform. From here on, well have to challenge ourselves with content in response to what Nintendo offers. We would like to give strong support." These comments not seem to not only give Square-Enix support for the DS and its network, but the "Revolution" and its network as well.
