Square Enix Officially Announces Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for the Revolution
May 18th, 2005 (1:59pm) - As reported in our recap of the Nintendos pre-E3 press conference for the Revolution, Square Enix has officially announced that it will be supporting Nintendos next-generation home console, the Nintendo Revolution, with a sequel to the GameCubes Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles.
The Revolutions promise of seamless interactive entertainment provided by the built in Wi-Fi system caught Square Enixs attention. "We would like to strongly support Nintendos next-generation networking plans," said Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix. "The Revolution may embody a new platform beyond a portable or console, which makes possible a new structure in the network gaming system, changing the ways communities are built and supported. This is the kind of direction weve envisioned, and we will challenge ourselves to provide immersive interactive content in response to what Nintendo offers." More details regarding the new Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles series are not yet determined and will be announced in the near future. Since a version of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles is also in development for the Nintendo DS, it is expected that the two games will be able to communicate with each other wirelessly for some gameplay extras.
